Professor of Civil Law,
Intellectual Property Law & Economic Law
(pay grade: W3)

This is a permanent civil service position.
In addition to civil law, intellectual property law, and economic law (e.g. unfair competition law, antitrust law, media law, or data protection law), applicants should address the European and international aspects of these areas in teaching and research. One emphasis should be on the interdisciplinary treatment of problems that result from the implementation of information technologies as well as the digitization and networking of industry and society.
The applicant should also have an interest in the aspects of legal studies that are unique to Bayreuth, such as the supplemental programmes in technology and in business and economics, as well as the relevant focus areas at the University. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching and be involved in preparation for examinations in civil law, in Area of Emphasis II (Intellectual Property Law & Competition Law), and in the department’s English-taught curriculum. A commitment to the University of Bayreuth’s interdisciplinary programmes of study and research projects is particularly welcome. Willingness to procure external funding and to be actively involved in academic self-administration is expected.
Requirements for this position (in accordance with Article 7 and Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG) are a university degree, a doctoral degree, a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (Habilitation), and proven excellence in teaching. Evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement as a junior professor or in a non-university environment will also be considered. Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants (Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG). The ability to teach in English is expected.
