Professorship (W3) in Sanitary Engineering

INSTITUTE OF SANITARY ENGINEERING, WATER QUALITY AND WASTE MANAGEMENT The professorship’s area of work comprises material flows in the urban water cycle, treatment and disposal of urban and industrial wastewater, integrated management of water resources and sustainable water-body management.
The position involves teaching/lecturing on the subject area in the study programs of the faculty taught in German and English, as well as in further study programs in which the faculty participates. The professorship is incorporated into the joint lead of the Institute of Sanitary Engineering, Water Quality and Waste Management.

The key research areas are the development and optimization of concepts and technologies for the collection and treatment of urban and industrial wastewater, with the aim of minimization of emissions, material usage and energy input as well as retrieval and usage of the resources (water, energy, nutrients) included in the (waste) water, closing of material flows and integrated water and storm water management. In this context, the development, analysis, modelling of cutting-edge and integrated systems of sanitary engineering for different types of settlement and spatial patterns (urban, periurban, rural areas) are fundamental, keeping in mind industrialized, threshold and developing countries, and considering extreme events too.

The proved ability, experience and willingness to interdisciplinary cooperation and successful acquisition and management of basic and applied research projects are expected.

This professorship includes membership in the Board of the Institute, as well as the directorate of the Sewage Treatment Plant for Research and Education. Contribution to the Water Research Centre Stuttgart (Wasserforschungszentrum Stuttgart) and the Competence Center for Trace Compounds Baden-Württemberg (Kompetenzzentrum Spurenstoffe Baden-Württemberg) is expected.
