Ruhr-Universität Bochum

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties.
PROFESSOR (W3) IN HYBRID ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
Ruhr-Universität Bochum - Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Product and Service Engineering, invites applications for the position of a Professor (W3) in Hybrid Additive Manufacturing to start on October 1st, 2017.
The future job holder will represent the field of Additive Manufacturing in research and teaching.
We are looking for a personality to establish and hold a new chair in the above-mentioned field. Applicants should have evidently specialized in the fields of additive manufacturing technologies and their quality management and should be prepared to focus on new hybrid additive manufacturing technologies (particularly manufacturing procedures to combine different materials).
We expect the future job holder to establish a new research field with high international visibility and, at the same time, to connect with the latest industrial practice.
Applicants are ideally experienced in basic and collaborative research and are interested in getting involved in joint projects for the next generation of additive manufacturing technologies both in prototype manufacturing and customized product creation at the Institute of Product and Service Engineering. The future job holder is expected to significantly support the research activities by successful third-party funding. Both industrial and academic applicants are equally welcome.
Along with the qualification of new materials as well as the successful material application, it will be possible to network with the Institute of Materials of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, which would be highly appreciated.
Teaching will focus on elective and obligatory classes within the courses of studies of Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Resource Management as well as Sales Engineering and Product Management. For this purpose, the future job holder will have to prepare new lectures to teach and focus on the topics of "additive manufacturing processes", "component properties and quality control" as well as "process integration and process automation". We expect the future job holder to show special didactical skills to manage lectures with a huge number of students.
Positive evaluation as a junior professor, a habilitation or equivalent academic achievements as well as the evidence of special aptitude for academic teaching are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB and to generally get involved in university processes according to RUB’s mission statement.
Furthermore, we expect:
  • high commitment in teaching
  • readiness to participate in interdisciplinary academic work
  • willingness and ability to attract the external funding of research projects
  • non-academic skills in the field of integrative negotiation management
