The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald is seeking candidates for a

Professor (W3) in Biochemistry

within the Institute of Biochemistry. The appointment will begin as early as possible. The successful applicant will be expected to cover the entire breadth of general instruction in Biochemistry as well as being an internationally recognized expert in the field, as demonstrated by key publications in the field and success in obtaining research funding. The research topics should cover approaches to investigate biochemical and/or cellular mechanisms by modern methods like structural analysis of bio-macromolecules. Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary collaborations across the University, including Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Biology and Medicine. In particular, collaborations with the University research centers for Infection Biology, Environmental Microbiology and/or Biotechnology are expected.
The applicant must show a commitment to teaching excellence in the education of biochemistry and students in the area of adjacent fields like biology and medicine and an outline of this teaching concept should be included in the application. The successful candidate is expected to successfully lead a research group as well as participate actively in the academic organization of the University.
Applicants must fulfill the requirements for a university professor according to Paragraph 58 of the Landeshochschulgesetz Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: a university degree at the PhD level, independent teaching and research experience as evidenced by an Assistant (Junior) Professorship, Habilitation or another equivalent position.
According to Paragraph 61 of the Landeshochschulgesetz Mecklenburg-Vorpommern the successful applicant will be employed either as a "Beamter auf Lebenszeit", or if the candidate so requests, as a "Beamter auf Zeit", or in "Angestelltenverhältnis".
