The appointed personality will represent the discipline of Construction History
both in research and teaching. The Professorship is an established member of
the Institute of Art and Building History. It is also one of the key professorships of
the DFG-Graduiertenkolleg 1913 „Kulturelle und Technische Werte historischer
Bauten“ (a research training group funded by the German research foundation).
In research, the professorship is expected to develop new content and methodologies,
setting impulses on the national as well as international level. Interdisciplinary
cooperation with other members of the Institute as well as members of the
Institute of Civil Engineering and other partners within the faculty is expected.
Within the DFG research training group, the professorship is responsible for
input on construction history research approaches engineering methods in the
investigation of historic buildings and structures.
Teaching responsibilities are within all degree programmes offered by the faculty,
with a focus on Master courses offered in the study programmes with focus on
Heritage as well as the degree courses in Civil Engineering, where Construction
History is a fundamental course focusing on building with heritage and existing
buildings, and structural preservation of historic buildings is a priority.
Prerequisite for a call, amongst others, is a PhD in engineering, preferably in
the field of Construction History. Further scientific qualification such as a postdoctoral
lecture qualification, a junior professorship and/or scientific publications
covering different topics within construction history are expected. Knowledge
and practice in the field of structural preservation are desirable.
With the focus on scientific research, teaching obligation amounts to 8 h.

The conditions of employment are according to §§ 41Abs. 1 Nr. 1 - 4 a und 43
Teaching language will be in German and English. Experience in acquisition of
third party funding for managing such projects is required. The topics of these
projects should be relevant for the DFG (German Research Foundation) or similar
international research funding organisations.
