The Faculty of Education at Goethe-University Frankfurt, Institute of General Education, invites applications for the following position starting October 1st, 2018:

Professorship (W2, tenure track) of Education, Area of Specialization: Gender Studies and Qualitative Research

The initial tenure track appointment is for six years (§ 64 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Hessen (HHG)). Upon positive evaluation, the incumbent will be promoted to a permanent position at a higher level (W3).
The successful applicant is expected to research and teach in the areas of gender and gender studies in the context of education and the educational system from both a theoretical as well as an empirical perspective. The excellent research record (proven by publications and empirical research projects) should demonstrate expertise in the following expected thematic areas:
  • Theories of gender, gender studies and intersectional theory: Traditions and developments in theories of gender and sexual difference, especially in the context of educational studies;
  • (Re-)production of social order in the context of gender: Theoretical and empirical research on the cultural and social production of difference within educational institutions in (late) modern societies;
  • Qualitative research methods, including methodology and epistemology.
Research perspectives on gender connected to the production of difference and reification through empirical research are strongly desired. The successful candidate will cooperate with the other areas of research in the Institute of General Education.
Teaching will focus on the Frankfurt BA and MA Programs of Education as well as the teacher education programs. Since the successful candidate will also be involved in teacher training, relevant experiences are desired.
The successful applicant is expected to partake in the teaching of research methods. An engagement in the program "Gender Studies" (Cornelia Goethe Centrum) is welcome.
Applications from colleagues with proven excellence in research and teaching, as well as with internationally visible research achievements and the ability to represent the scientific discipline of education in its entire breadth are invited. Moreover, academics with relevant expertise from abroad are expressly encouraged to apply for this position. Teaching is expected to take place in German. If the required linguistic competence is not already fulfilled, then the successful candidate would have two years to acquire the necessary proficiency in German (written and oral).
The designated salary for the position is based on "W2/W3" on the German university scale or equivalent.
