Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB)

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties.
The Ruhr-University Bochum - Faculty of Protestant Theology invites applications for the Professorship of Intercultural Theology and Corporeality (W2). Expected starting date is April 1st, 2017.
The future holder of the post will represent intercultural theology comprehensively in both research and teaching (BA-degree program/MEd-educational degree program/ Magister Theologiae/Master of Arts). This includes research in contemporary developments in religious cultures, as well as the ability to reflect theologically on the subject matter and instill in students the necessary theoretical competency.
The applicant should have a research emphasis in the area of cultural constructions and manifestations of corporeality (biblical, historical, contemporary somatologies), particularly in terms of conceptions of gender or as care for the body (Cura/Care) found in pastoral and diaconal efforts in the past and present. The professorial chair should especially be willing to initiate and coordinate interdisciplinary research projects, both within the Faculty of Protestant Theology as well as reaching across disciplines.
Prerequisites for the position are an excellent dissertation (Promotion in the German system) and distinguished further research (Habilitation or an equivalent second academic monograph, or a positive evaluation as a Junior Professor).
We expect:
  • high commitment in teaching
  • willingness and ability to attract external funding
  • Experience in the organization of academic research projects and the willingness to participate in the creation of international cooperative activities by the Faculty of Protestant Theology.
All applicants must belong to a Protestant confession.
The Ruhr-University Bochum is an equal opportunity employer.
Complete applications with the usual documents (letter of application, academic CV, list of publications, certificates and diplomas, list of third-party funding) should be sent, not later than November, 10th, 2016, to the Dean of the Faculty of Protestant
Theology of the Ruhr-University Bochum, Prof.
Dr. Ute Gause, GA 8/135, 44780 Bochum,
