Institute of Political Science of the Faculty of
Social Sciences the following position, beginning
on 1st April 2018:

Professorship in Political Theory

with the status of a tenured civil servant

The professorship is affiliated to the Institute for Intercultural and International Studies (InIIS). The InIIS is an essential part of the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Scien­ces (BIGSSS).
We expect from candidates the willingness to cooperate in collaborative research projects. The holder of the professor­ship will contribute to the BA and MA curricula and to the training of teachers and will take part in the academic self-administration. We particularly welcome candidates with experience in national and international research cooperation and with a proven capacity to attract external funding.
Applicants should have researched and published in at least one of the following areas:
  • Normative political theory
  • Theory of democracy, theory of the state
  • Theory of inter- and transnational relations
The holder of the professorship will have to represent the entire thematic range of Political Theory in his or her teaching. The obligatory ,Introduction to Political Theory’- lecture will have to be taught in German. The ability to offer courses in English is welcomed.
Preconditions for the professorship - apart from the usual legal requirements for becoming a German civil servant - are an excellent Dissertation, plus a Habilitation or equivalents to a Habilitation, and an outstanding profile in research and teaching.
Candidates should be willing to undergo further training in university didactics. The University of Bremen intends to further increase the presence of women in academic employment; women are explicitly encouraged to apply.
