Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill, at the earliest opportunity, the following post in the Department of Social Work, Health and Media:

W2 Professorship in Occupational and Environmental Medicine

The professor will take responsibility for teaching and research in the disciplines of human biology and medicine, with the emphasis on occupational and environmental medicine, on the Bachelor's and Master's programmes in health and social care based at the university's Magdeburg campus. The post holder will be expected to make scholarly and practical scientific contributions to the interdisciplinary development of theories and methods of prevention and health promotion on the basis of the WHO concept. With regard to teaching, the post holder will be required to convey the principles of occupational medicine, especially in terms of the prevention of work-related diseases with particular emphasis on the age-appropriate structuring of work and the promotion of health equity. The teaching role also comprises environmental health contributions in the field of environment and health, in particular from the point of view of environmental justice. He or she shall be responsible for organising and coordinating teaching in the modules assigned to the chair.
The role includes active involvement in the development of the subject, in the internationalisation of the department, and involvement in academic self-governance at the university. Over and above this, a commitment to the acquisition and supervision of third-party funded projects is expected.
Requirements:
An university degree in medicine and further training/an additional qualification in occupational and/or environmental medicine or further/complementary studies in the field of public health are required. A corresponding doctorate and relevant practical and teaching experience in the fields of occupational and environmental medicine are also expected. The applicant should be able to demonstrate academic work in the field of occupational and environmental medicine and have experience in cooperation projects in these disciplines. The international orientation of the course requires candidates to be able to demonstrate excellent English language skills.
General Conditions of Employment:
The conditions of employment for professors are contained in § 35 of the Higher Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA) dated 05.05.2004 and most recently amended by the Act Amending the Provisions of Higher Education Law dated 26.07.2010 (official gazette 19/2010).
The ability to conduct scientific work must have been demonstrated by the conferral of a doctorate. In particular, for professors in universities of applied sciences, it is the case that in accordance with § 35 para. 2 no. 4b (HSG LSA), specific achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods must have been demonstrated in professional practice of several years‘ duration, of which at least three years must have been outside the higher education sphere. Remuneration is in accordance with W2 of Remuneration Order W from the Act Reforming Remuneration Law in the State of Saxony-Anhalt (BesNeuRG LSA, official gazette 04/2011) as amended.
A further requirement is that professors should be prepared to take on teaching responsibilities in their subject area on other courses at the university. A commitment to technology and knowledge transfer and university self-governance is also expected. Professors should be prepared to reside within the university's catchment area.
Subject to fulfilment of the requirements, the successful candidate would be appointed to the rank of civil servant with unlimited tenure or alternatively to an unlimited employment relationship under private law, in accordance with § 38 para. 1 line 9 HSG LSA.
