With the Professorship chemodynamical processes of nutrient and pollutant transport in the system soil-plant-atmosphere are to be investigated with a focus on soil and plants. Experimental studies, among others by labeling of nutrients and pollutants with stable and radioactive isotopes, are intended for the development of models for mass transport in this complex ecosystem in cooperation with colleagues at FZJ. The participation in the bioeconomy network my (BioSC) is desired.
Furthermore, the Professorship shall develop in the midterm a focus in the ecotoxicological assessment of new materials (such as nano- and bio-based materials), and contribute to the safety research for new technological developments, preferably in cooperation with the Fraunhofer IME and the DWI, Aachen.
The Professorship, as a member of the Institute for Environmental Research, should be involved in two of the research priorities of the RWTH Biology group (safety of plant biomass and bio-based molecules and materials). An international reputation in one or more of the above areas, as identified by corresponding success in acquisition of third-party funding, publications, project management and transfer is desired. The candidate will contribute signified- cantly to education in the study programs of biology and in particular the MSc Ecotoxicology at RWTH Aachen University. Cooperation in current and planned research projects of both institutions, RWTH and FZJ, is strongly encouraged.
A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
The professorship is limited for a fixed term of five years. Subsequently there will be an opportunity to apply as the successor of a then vacant W3 position in Envirommental Biology and Chemodynamics
