The Faculty of Geosciences and Geography, Institute of Earth Sciences (Institut für Geowissenschaften, IfG) at the Goethe University Frankfurt/ Main and the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam-German Research Centre of Geosciences (GFZ) invite applications for the following joint appointment to be filled as soon as possible:
The position is limited to 5 years and will be affiliated to Section 4.3
"Chemistry and Physics of Earth materials" of the Department 4
"Geomaterials" of the GFZ and to the "Institute of Earth Sciences" at
the Faculty of Geosciences and Geography of the Goethe University.
The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and be responsible
for the research program "Atomistic Modelling of Geomaterials".
The ideal candidate must have demonstrated to be an interdisciplinary
oriented scientist working on geological, geophysical and mineralogical
topics at the atomic scale using state-of-the-art computing modelling
methods and studying structure-property-relationships.
Applications should include a clear outline of how to integrate the
candidate’s research profile into the working groups at GFZ and IfG.
The successful candidate will be expected to actively contribute to
the research field of Geosciences both in Potsdam and Frankfurt, and
to establish and maintain national and international collaborations.
It is also expected that the successful candidate will contribute to
the existing Bachelor and Master programs of Geosciences at the
IfG in Frankfurt. In agreement with the Goethe University’s policy to
attract international students, undergraduate and graduate lectures
can be given in English. Teaching duties will be two hours per week
Qualifications for employment are a Ph.D. degree and research experience
in "theoretical mineral physics", "high-pressure/high-temperature
physics", "fundamental atomic-scale physics of geomaterials", "modelling
and prediction of structures", "materials theory" and "geophysics".
The designated salary for the position is based on "W2" on the German
university scale or equivalent. The Goethe University and the Helmholtz
