The chairholder of Building Product Innovation (BPI) will focus primarily on the conceptualisation and design of novel building products. The novelty of these products may lie in the uniqueness of the concept, in the novel use of materials, or in the use of novel materials.
Proper understanding of modern means of production and manufacturing (e.g. CNC production technology, additive manufacturing, use of robotics) and of (de)construction and (dis)assembly (e.g. stacking techniques, dry-montage, dismantling) is an essential boundary condition. Special attention is to be paid to circularity: in the near future building products should be renewable, reusable and recyclable.
The chairholder of BPI is meant to develop and bring across knowledge, theory, methodology, process and practice of building product innovation. BPI is expected to advance the area of building technology and architectural engineering, responding to urgent issues in science and society (design for sustainability, circularity, disasters and an aging society), and to demands for innovation from the building industry.
The Chair is envisioned as a frontrunner in the field, a flagship for innovation in the built environment.
The candidate has a scientific attitude and knowledge, and preferably has a track record in practice. The following qualifications are expected:
- Academic education in building technology, building engineering, architecture or a different relevant subject;
- Experience in research, demonstrable by a doctoral degree, a research track record and publications;
- Outstanding teaching abilities;
- Design expertise in the field of building technology;
- Contacts in the world of building technology and architecture;
- Demonstrable capability to acquire funding for projects;
- Strong abilities in leadership and management;
- Cooperative attitude and good social skills;
- Good skills in spoken and written communication in English and (if applicable) willingness to learn Dutch.
