Job description

The University of Twente (UT) invites researchers with an outstanding research record in Computer Science to apply for the assistant professor position in Computer Architectures for embedded Systems for the Department of Computer Science within the Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science.

All activities of the CAES chair focus on embedded systems with ultra-low energy budgets, guaranteed performance and sustainable dependable behavior. This covers, besides system design, both hardware- and software aspects of embedded systems. Application areas range from relatively small-scale systems like handhelds for wireless communications, nodes for the Internet-of-Things (IoT), automotive, to large-scale system that are used within radars and radio astronomy.

The candidate will contribute to the research projects of the CAES chair and will, amongst others, be involved with projects where ultra-low power IoT devices are researched. The most challenging aspect of these devices is that they have to operate on a low energy budget while still guaranteeing a minimum level of performance. This requires major advances in system-, hardware- and software design.

It is important that a characteristic own research line within complex systems is built for which external funding, such as within the NWO Innovational Research Incentives Scheme (VENI/VIDI/VICI) and within the European Research Council can be acquired.

We expect a strong ambition toward innovative research, illustrated by publications in international journals and by taking up the challenge in acquiring research grants, either via personal schemes or in collaboration with others. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, allowing efficient interaction with colleagues from other disciplines. Furthermore, the candidate has obtained a PhD degree in technical sciences and gained international experience at a post graduate level. The candidate should have a background in hardware and software design for embedded systems and is familiar with modern computer architectures (e.g. DSPs, GPUs, GPPs, FPGA). The candidate preferably has an affinity with wireless communication systems and analog design.

Teaching is an important part of the activities of the department. The candidate will be involved in the teaching program of the Department of Computer Science at the Bachelor and Master level, as well as the service teaching. The candidate is expected to transfer his/her specific expertise to the master program. To facilitate the professional development and quality of teaching, all lecturers are requested to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years of their first appointment.

Women are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applications (including curriculum vitae, list of publications, research statement, and three names of potential references) can be submitted online ( before 31th of May, 2017 to the University of Twente, attn. dr. ir. A.B.J. Kokkeler, acting chairman CAES.
