Job description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position to study and investigate commercially available membranes for new applications for an industrial partner. The main goal is to understand the separation behavior of these membranes especially in aggressive environments, but also to investigate and fundamentally understand some of the unique features of this membrane related to its fabrication process. As you will closely work together with the industrial partner, good communication and project management skills are key in this project.

You will be part of the European Membrane Institute Twente (EMI Twente) of the University of Twente, which is part of the research cluster Membrane Science and Technology (www.membrane.nl). EMI Twente aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by translating academic know-how into ultimately new demonstrated products and processes for the industry. This is typically done in the form of bilateral confidential research and development projects.

As a researcher of the EMI Twente you are expected to perform research of high quality, efficiently collaborate with industrial partners, contributing to the success of the EMI Twente.


The successful candidate will be a motivated researcher with a PhD in chemical engineering, physics or chemistry with affinity for membrane science and technology. Expertise and track record in membrane formation and/or membrane transport behavior are preferred. We expect a creative person that shows self-initiative with a hands-on mentality and independent team-oriented style of working. The candidate should have good communication skills backed with a good command of the English language.

Conditions of employment
The University of Twente offers a stimulating work environment in an area of applied, forefront research. You will have an employment contract for the duration of 2 years. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities. Gross monthly salary based on a full-time employment depends on experience and qualifications and ranges from € 3.068.- to € 4.028.- Additionally, the University of Twente provides excellent facilities for professional and personal development, a holiday allowance (amounts to 8%), an end-of-year bonus (amounts to 8,3%) and a number of additional benefits.
