Two Postdoctoral Fellows – immunology, B cell malignancy KG Jebsen Centre for B cell malignancies, Institute for Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo

Two three-year postdoc positions (SKO 1352) are available at the KG Jebsen Centre for B cell malignancies at the Dept of Immunology in the research group headed by Prof Ludvig A Munthe and cohosted by Hilde Schjerven (Researcher at Oslo University Hospital and Ass. Prof at UCSF, CA, USA) and Anders Tveita (Researcher at Oslo University Hospital).

The Centre studies how dysregulated interactions between Th cells and other microenvironmental components play a role in the pathogenesis and progression of B cell malignancies in human patients. We 1) define how the tumor microenvironment supports malignant B cells, 2) we establish the drug sensitivity of primary cancer cells in a personalized medicine setting, 3) we study the role and significance of transcriptional regulation and altered transcriptomes in B-cell malignancies, 4) we develop novel biologics together with biotech partners, and 5) we study pathogenesis of primary B cell malignancies in human->mouse xenografted mice or in novel gene knockout mice.

We seek highly motivated individuals holding a PhD or M.D.-PhD degree that appreciate working in an international and interactive environment. Qualification requirements include a completed PhD and experience within the field of molecular biology, cancer biology, hematology, tumor immunology, translational medicine or related fields.

The positions are three-year postdocs on human B cell malignancies, these particular positions will work with CLL, B-ALL and MM. Position 1 will study how cells in the microenvironment can support the growth of malignant B cells, with focus on antigen-specific T cells. Results will be linked to ongoing studies to define the interaction partners and transcription regulation. Position 2 will study transcriptional regulation of malignant B cells and the interaction of these factors with cell signaling pathways and also drug sensitivity assays. The postdoc will also follow up current CAR T cells in pipeline.

The postdocs will continue utilizing our technical breakthroughs that include in vitro culture of primary human cells, mimicking the microenvironment and xenografting into NSG mice, advanced flow cytometry with bar coding and multi-parameter (20-plexed) phosphoflow, RNAseq, ChIPSeq, and work with mouse models. Experience in flow cytometry and cell culture techniques is required. Experience with mass spectrometer flow cytometry (CyTOF 2), mouse research and/or bioinformatics/NGS sequencing is an advantage.

The postdocs will work in our 13 person group that will be expanded to include 5 new positions within the year. We have ongoing collaborative projects both locally in Oslo and internationally.

An important objective for the University for appointments such as these is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their respective area of study.
