The University of Konstanz, with its "Institutional Strategy to promote Top-Level Research", has been receiving continuous funding since 2007 within the framework of the Excellence Initiative by the German Federal and State Governments.
The Chair for Economic History (Professor Laura Rischbieter), at the Department of History and Sociology, invites applications for a

PhD Position in Global Economic History
(Salary Scale 13 TV-L / 75 %)

beginning on 1 March 2017. The position is available for the duration of three years.
The position is part of a research project on "Economic uncertainty and the international regulation of sovereign debt in times of crisis, 1970-1997". For details, see: http://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/275367566.
The Research Project is involved in the academic activities at the Priority Programme „Experience and expectation. Historical foundations of economic behaviour“ founded by the German research Council (DFG).
Applicants are expected to pursue an individual research project in the context of the research Project and Priority Programme. Suggested PhD research topics may refer to one of the following fields: comparative, international, or global history, all with a special focus on the history of economic thought or economic history in the 20th Century.
Candidates should hold an outstanding master’s degree in history or economic history, and demonstrate proficiency in English and another modern language. At least a passive knowledge of German is required. Travel grants for archival research are available. Applications from abroad are explicitly encouraged.
