Applications are invited for the post of Personal Professor of Informatics in the School of Engineering and Informatics at NUI Galway. The successful candidate will provide dynamic research leadership in the area of data analytics / semantic technologies, show a strong commitment to teaching and provide wider academic leadership within the School.

The National University of Ireland in Galway, College of Engineering and Informatics, invites applications for the position of Personal Professor associated with the Insight Research Institute at NUI Galway (previously known as the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI)). The Professorship is intended to strengthen the strategic research areas of Insight at NUI Galway. The Insight Centre for Data Analytics is Ireland's Premier Data Analytics research centre, primarily located at NUI Galway, UCD, DCU and UCC with partner sites at the Royal Irish Academy, Tyndall, TCD and NUI Maynooth.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform a leading role in NUI Galway's Insight Research Institute and will lead a team of post-doctoral and postgraduate researchers. S/he will act as the principal scientific investigator on a number of key Insight projects and will provide leadership and research supervision to the members of his/her research group.

The successful candidate shall possess:
  • An international profile and expertise in the Linked Data, Semantic Web and Web Science Research
  • An international reputation with a capacity to provide leadership in the development of areas overlapping with the Semantic Web and Linked Data, such as but not restricted to, Knowledge Discovery, Visualisation, Natural Language Processing, Data Science, Data Analytics, Bioinformatics, or related fields and application areas.
  • A clear strategy and vision for the realisation of world-class research.
  • An excellent record of research as evidenced by publications in top ranking journals and conferences.
  • The ability to compete successfully for national and international research funding particularly in the EU Framework programmes.
  • Proven ability to lead to team of researchers and to supervise PhD students.
  • Lecturing experience at University level.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with industry and strong commitment to future industrial engagements.
The appointment will be made at the level of Personal Professor.

Salary:
€121,765.60 p.a.

(This appointment will be made in line with current Government pay policy)

(For pre 1995 public sector entrants in Ireland, the D class Salary rates will apply)
