Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion
The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim a.d. Ruhr is interested in establishing several independent Max Planck Research Groups. In this position, you independently develop and implement a research program that complements the general topics of the scientific departments of the institute.

We invite you to work with us and apply for a position as a

Max Planck Research Group Leader (m / f)

Successful applicants will be offered a Max Planck Research Group for a period of five years (extension is possible). This includes a W2 position for the job holder (BesGr. W2 (BBesG)). The funding period is limited with the possibility of further extension in consideration of legal and financial regulations. The group draws on infrastructure and administration of the institute, but it will be located at the neighboring universities (Universität Duisburg-Essen, Ruhr-Universität Bochum). In addition, funds for personnel, equipment and running costs will be provided enabling the group leader to flexibly put the research program into practice.

Candidates should develop their own research project in one or more areas of chemical energy conversion:
  • Synthesis and characterization of photo-, electro- or chemo-catalytic materials
  • Operando spectroscopy in the laboratory or at the synchrotron
  • Analysis of structure-property relationships
  • Application or use of theoretical methods
The candidates present themselves to the institute during a scientific colloquium. A selection committee of scientific members of the Max Planck Society makes the hiring decision in coordination with the institute. The Max Planck Research Group is regularly evaluated within the framework of the specialist advisory system of the Max Planck Society.

The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. It is also committed to employing more disabled persons and expressly encourages their applications.
