The Department of Physics at Bielefeld University and the Helmholtz Center Berlin invite applications for a
Junior Professorship (W1)
in Synchrotron based Materials Research
for Information Technology
The successful candidate will lead a joint junior research group at Bielefeld University in the Department of Physics and at the Helmholtz Center Berlin within the Joint Lab „Development and Characterization of Energy materials with Synchrotron radiation - BiBer“. The candidates research subjects should cover the development and characterization of new material systems for Information technology with experimental focus on thin film preparation and characterization with synchrotron radiation. Particular preference will be given to research directed towards materials for spintronics and/or energy applications. The junior research group will be supported by two PhD positions and will have access to the thin film and patterning facilities of Bielefeld University and the synchrotron beamline of the Helmholtz Center Berlin. For nanostructured samples, beneficial methods such as photoemission microscopy and soft-x-ray magnetic scattering are available. The scientific interests of the applicant should complement the activities of the Physics department at Bielefeld University.
Applicants should have a PhD preferably in Physics, Material Science, or a related discipline and demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching. Experience with international research collaborations, conference participation/organization, and the supervision of thesis are of advantage. The initial appointment as a Junior Professor is for three years, extendable to six years after positive evaluation.
Applications from suitably qualified handicapped and severely handicapped persons are explicitly encouraged.
Bielefeld University has received a number of awards for its achievements in the provision of equal opportunity and has been recognized as a family friendly university.
