Junior Professorship - salary grade W1with W3 tenure-track option in the field of "Mathematics - Modeling, Simulation and Optimzation of Real World Processes". With this position, TU Berlin especially addresses and aims to promote young scientists. For that reason, this position will be a temporary W1 junior professorship with an evaluation after 3 years. In case of a second successful tenure-track evaluation after 6 years, this position will lead to a permanent W3 professorship. Reference number: II-122/18 (starting at the earliest possible date / for a period of 3 years; an extension of three more years is possible after successfull interim evaluation / closing date for applications 14/06/18) Working field: The position requires research and teaching in the area of mathematical modeling, simulation, and optimization with a strong interdisciplinary orientation. The following research areas should be addressed:
- Modelling with Differential Equations
- Model Reduction
- Multiscale and Inverse Problems
- Sparsity/Low Order Modelling
- Data assimilation
The candidate must represent the area of mathematical modeling, simulation, and optimization in research and teaching. Applicants must have some teaching experience on university level as well as some additional experience in advising and supervising Bachelor, Master and doctoral students. Experience in academic administration is desirable. The area of research expertise should allow co-operations with the current professors at the Institute of Mathematics as well as participation in current and future collaborative research activities, such as CRC 1029 "TurbIn", CRC 910 "Control of self-organizing nonlinear systems: theoretical methods and concepts of application", CRC/TRR 109 "Discretization in Geometry und Dynamics" or CRC/TRR 154 "Mathematical Modeling, Simulation and Optimization at the Example of Gas Networks" respectively further collaborative projects. Active participation in the "Berlin International Graduate School in Model and Simulation based Research" (BIMoS) and the Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) will be expected.
