The Faculty of Natural Sciences invites applications for the position of a

Junior Professor (W1 with Tenure Track)
of Data Assimilation in the Earth System

at the Institute of Physics and Meteorology to be filled as soon as possible.

The successful candidate is expected to develop new methods for assimilating relevant observations of the soil-vegetation-atmosphere system. The candidate is expected to possess excellent research qualifications in data assimilation and in modeling on the convective scale. Expertise in remote sensing of the Earth system is desired.

Teaching obligations comprise contributions to teaching mathematics and physics in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. At the beginning, the teaching load will comprise four contact hours per week and will be increased to six contact hours per week after a successful interim evaluation. We expect the candidate to be able to carry out any teaching obligations in both German and English.

The requirements for an appointment are a completed university degree, pedagogical suitability and a doctorate of outstanding quality.

The appointment will be a temporary civil service position for four years. After a positive interim evaluation, the employment relationship will be extended for another two years. After six years, the applicant may be appointed to a W3 position if the requirements described in the University’s quality assurance guidelines are met. The appointment to a W3 position may be done without any additional call for applications and through a simplified appointment process.

With equal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates with disabilities.
The University of Hohenheim seeks to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching, and strongly encourages qualified female scientists to apply.

Please attach the following documents to your application: a statement of your future research interests, a curriculum vitae, a documentation of academic achievements (copies), a list of publications, a list of third-party funded projects, a teaching record, information on teaching evaluations as well as three key publications.
