Junior Group Leader
We are seeking a population geneticist to start a dry lab as a junior group leader at the
Department of Comparative Genetics at MPIPZ

The candidate will hold a PhD in population genetics and will have produced internationally relevant publications in the area. S/he he will have a strong interest in and understanding of classical and modern debates in population genetics theory and will be able to exploit empirical datasets to solve biological questions relating to the genetic basis of evolutionary change. S/he will show evidence for being able to advance population genetics methodologies to solve practical and theoretical problems in the area. Areas of interest include reconstructing the demographic history of natural populations, understanding how the interplay of selection and demography shape DNA polymorphism patterns and finding signatures of polygenic adaptation. Strong bioinformatics skills including the curation and handling of high throughput sequencing datasets is highly desirable. The post holder will initiate an independent research programme and collaborate with existing groups at the Department which investigate the morphogenetic basis for plant trait diversity at different evolutionary scales. The post holder will complement existing expertise in statistical genetics and bioinformatics. S/he will have excellent communication skills and will contribute broadly to graduate education in the area of statistics. S/he will also be encouraged to develop research links with other groups at the institute and the NRW area. The position is initially available for 5 years. Start up funds will be available and s/he will also be expected to apply for IMPRS Ph.D student positions and external funding.
