in Engineering Mechanics -
Mechanics of Materials

The Faculty of Production Engineering at the University of Bremen invites applications for an appointment at the rank of Full Professor (W3) to commence as soon as possible.
Priority will be given to candidates in the mechanics of structural materials. The candidate should have expertise in at least two of the following areas:
  • Multiscale modeling of materials in manufacturing processes
  • Numerical methods for coupled problems in solid mechanics
  • Prediction of deformation and damage of new materials
The appointee is expected to play an important role in the Center for Materials and Processes at the University of Bremen (MAPEX, http://www.uni-bremen.de/mapex.html). The application should expose how the candidate’s planned research activities will contribute to and enhance the MAPEX research landscape and create new synergies within the Faculty of Production Engineering and beyond. Collabo­rations with the Institutes of the Federal State of Bremen in the fields of materials science and technology are also expected.
The appointed Professor will be responsible for teaching basic courses in General Mechanics and Strength of Mate­rials (in German) and advanced courses in her/his field of expertise (English or German). Candidates without prior knowledge of German are expected to teach basic courses in German after a two-year transitional period.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding PhD in Engineering Mechanics or a related field and an international reputation in innovation and excellence in research and teaching. She/he should have a strong funding record and the leadership and management experience to pioneer and develop a large research team.
The appointment shall be made in accordance with section 18 of the Bremen Higher Education Act (§ 18 BremHG).
The University of Bremen and specifically the Faculty of Production Engineering aims at increasing the percentage of female Professors.
