University of Stuttgart

Full Professor (W3) for Theory
of Architecture and Design

INSTITUTE OF THEORY OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN I APRIL 1ST, 2018 This chair combines architectural theory in research and teaching as independent science with an imaginative, creative and adventurous applied design theory. Engaging in the discourse between tradition and progress, the focus of this professorship will be on the epistemological and art-theoretical definition of architecture - especially of modern to contemporary architecture - and on transferring the resulting findings into a conceptual design theory. The development of new research projects and an exceptional readiness to collaborate interdisciplinary are an integral requirement. The professorship shall re-examine and scrutinize the identity concepts of architects and in doing so strengthen their scientific and artistic position. In addition, the position demands to widen the definition of architecture and to reformulate it anew in respect of changing fields of work, technologies and social aspects.

The professor will head the Institute of Theory of Architecture and Design. German is the main teaching language.
