University of Freiburg

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a

Full Professorship (W3) for Anatomy with a
focus on Experimental Neuroregeneration

in the Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Department Molecular Embryology to be filled as soon as possible. The professorship will represent the field of anatomy with a focus on experimental neuroregeneration in research and teaching.

The professorship is to establish and maintain an internationally recognized research agenda linking the fields of neurovascular disease and stem cell biology. With this position, the Faculty of Medicine aims to strengthen the focus area "Neuroinflammation" (SFB/TRR Initiative NeuroMac: "Development, function and potential of myeloid cells in central nervous system").

With regard to the increasingly important role of stem cell biology and hematology for the development of novel therapeutic approaches for neurovascular diseases successful candidates are expected to develop novel pre-clinical models for investigating the molecular mechanisms of neurovascular diseases in terms of signalling pathways and transcriptional programs. Candidates with a profound expertise in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, vascular biology and stem cell biology will be given preference.

Both departments at the institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology will jointly perform the teaching in anatomy required for human medicine, dentistry, and molecular medicine. Applicants should have a proven record in teaching all fields of anatomy.

This professorship is particularly suitable as a starting position for highly qualified early career researchers.

Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment regulations, the completion of a university degree in medicine or sciences, educational qualification and an exceptional doctorate degree. Applicants should have a Habilitation or an equivalent qualification (§ 47 Landeshochschulgesetz (LHG)) in the area of anatomy.

The Professorship will be established as part of the Heisenberg-Program of the German Research Foundation (DFG). It is therefore a prerequisite for the establishment and filling of the professorship that a grant for a Heisenberg-Professorship submitted by the applicant is granted by the DFG.

In line with the standards of the DFG, the position is initially limited to a 5 year W 3-Professorship according to § 50 paragraph 2 Landeshochschulgesetz (LHG) and can be converted into a tenured W 3-Professorship according to § 48 paragraph 1 (LHG) if receiving a positive evaluation. In case the employment is to be continued after the initial period, a new appeals procedure is not required.

The University of Freiburg seeks to increase the number of female scientific faculty members and therefore strongly encourages qualified women to apply for the position. The university is committed to providing a family-friendly workplace. Applicants with disabilities (Schwerbehinderte) will be given preferential consideration in case of equal qualification.
