This professorship works at the intersection between theology, the natural sciences, and engineering. It forms part of the Institute of Catholic Theology within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Its research and teaching will contribute to the degree programs of the institute, namely the Bachelor and Master programs of Religious Education, the interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (a combination of political science, sociology, history, and theology) as well as the new Master’s degree in Theology and Global Development.
The professor will also collaborate with the newly established centre for study of science and technology within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and will strengthen the interdisciplinary dialogue with the natural sciences and engineering at RWTH Aachen University.
A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (postdoctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
The Ph.D degree should be in an area of Systematic Theology. Furthermore the appointee should have a degree in natural sciences or engineering or have a proven track record of interdisciplinary publications in the area between theology and natural sciences or engineering. He/She is also expected to have the ability to work in a team, manage research and teaching groups, and commit him- or herself to third-party funding endeavors.
The initial term of appointment is five years.
