Computational Biologist - OMICs & Translational Research
(m/f)

We currently welcome applications for a Research Scientist (m/f) on a permanent and full time basis position starting date April 1st 2017 or later located at the KWS Headquarters in Einbeck, Germany. This position is part of an interdisciplinary team of plant physiologists, molecular biologists, and computational scientists that develops and implements innovative approaches for trait development in crops.

Your tasks:
  • Apply bioinformatics tools for mining large data sets, e.g. -omics, QTL, phenotypic data, with the aim to identify candidate genes for trait development
  • Identify relevant internal and public data sets and implement efficient search strategies
  • Evaluate results, mainly from a biological perspective, to elucidate gene-function-relations
  • Support the design of biological experiments to generate meaningful (OMICs) data sets
  • Provide feedback to the bioinformatics team to improve bioinformatics tools

Your profile:
  • PhD in Biology, Biotechnology or adjacent sciences
  • Strong background in plant physiology
  • Experienced user of bioinformatics and statistics tools, good understanding of bioinformatics methods (e.g. Omics, NGS, QTL mapping, data resources)
  • Direct working experience in designing experiments to unravel gene-functionrelations
  • Proven track record in analyzing large data sets, preferentially with crop plants
  • Excellent communication and team skills
  • A pro-active and goal-oriented work style
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken); proficiency in German would be an advantage
