The Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) is a new health research institution forming a translational research commons for over 4,000 clinicians and scientists of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of Europe’s largest academic health systems, and Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC), a global leader in molecular biology and genetics research. With its strategic priorities on personalized medicine and advanced therapies for debilitating progressive diseases, the BIH is now conducting global searches for five inaugural Chairs who will each establish innovative, interactive research centers and programs in digital health, clinical-translational sciences, genomic medicine, disease modelling, and cell and gene therapies, respectively.

BIH CHAIR FOR DISEASE MODELLING AND FOUNDING DIRECTOR OF THE BIH STEM CELL AND DISEASE MODELLING CENTER

The Candidate
The BIH invites applications for the position of BIH Chair for Disease Modelling. The Chair will serve as Founding Director of the BIH Stem Cell and Disease Modelling Center. The Chair will possess appropriate stature as an international leader with outstanding track record of high-impact research and demonstrated expertise in stem cell-derived disease model systems, including 3D-cultures and organoids, humanized animal models, genome editing, and / or cell engineering.
The Opportunity
The Chair will provide vision and leadership to establish the BIH Stem Cell and Disease Modelling Center by recruiting outstanding scientists and staff, and by promoting collaborations among investigators to develop, establish, and disseminate individualized human disease models for personalized medicine research. As Director of the BIH Stem Cell and Disease Modelling Center, the Chair will work with leading researchers and clinicians to foster translational collaboration of the BIH research commons and interact with complementary structures of Charité and MDC. The successful applicant will be both scientific member of the MDC and of the Medical Faculty of the Charité. The position is affiliated with the MDC.
The candidates must qualify for appointment as full professor (W3-level professor) of the Charité - Universitäts­medizin Berlin in fulfillment of the professional conditions of appointment according to § 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act. The successful candidates will be dynamic individuals with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, an excellent third-party funding record, administrative expertise, and proven commitment to education and mentorship of students, fellows and faculty. Experience with industry partnerships and regulatory environments is a plus.
