The professorship belongs to the Department of Architecture. The Department of Architecture takes a research-oriented approach to teaching also in cooperation with businesses and public institutions. It has an excellent reputation in architectural research throughout Germany. One out of seven main areas of research is about conservation and rebuilding of architecture and cultural heritage. A cross-disciplinary research network in this field, called REUSED, links all TUM’s academics and cultural heritage professionals.
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of building history, building research and conservation. The teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs.
The practice of building research will also be applied to buildings of recent past (20th and 21st centuries) in order to meet the challenges of contemporary urban development issues. The candidate will integrate into the new research network REUSED and will cooperate intensively with the Bayerisches Landesamt für Denkmalpflege.
We are looking for a candidate with high international reputation who has demonstrated achievements in research and teaching at the highest international standards, according to the relevant career level.
A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected. Proven ability to gain and to lead cooperative research projects and to attracting third-party funding (DFG, Foundations) is mandatory.
