The table summarises the universities where research is a strength for physics. A university is called strong in research if it is placed in the leader group in at least four of the seven indicators. No university made the top group in all seven indicators, but three excelled in six - the universities of Heidelberg and Karlsruhe and the LMU Munich. Heidelberg and Munich are also often referred to as leading research institutions by subject specialists. Indeed, the TU Munich was thus labelled by half of those questioned and made the top group in five of the seven indicators.
