At which universities do academics find the best conditions for research? The new 2007 CHE Research Ranking revises its rating of six of the 16 subjects. Includes: Results for pharmacy.

Pharmacy was compared across 22 universities. The research indicators available in this subject include the third-party funding spent, the number of doctorates per annum, and details of the number of patents for which academics in this subject have applied. Reputation is described for information purposes, but was not taken into account when drawing up the groupings of universities where research is a strength for pharmacy.

The table summarises the universities where research is a strength for pharmacy. A university is called strong in research if it is placed in the leader group in at least half of all indicators. The University of Heidelberg made the top group for all seven research indicators. The University of Frankfurt did the same with six indicators. All the other strong research universities made the leader group with four indicators. The universities of Frankfurt and Marburg also enjoy a positive reputation amongst German professors and were deemed to be pharmacy research leaders by over 25 per cent of the professors questioned in the CHE university ranking. New arrivals in the group of strong research universities are those of Saarbrücken and Freiburg, and the FU Berlin. They have improved since 2003. The universities of Bonn und Halle-Wittenberg lost their place amongst the front-runners.
