The table summarises the universities where research is a strength for mathematics. A university is called strong in research if it is placed in the leader group in at least half of all indicators. Of the 15 universities that comprise the group of those strong in research, four made the top in every possible indicator - the HU Berlin, the TU Berlin, the University of Bonn and the TU Kaiserslautern. The University of Bonn was also deemed "a research leader" by almost 44 per cent of the maths professors questioned. The TU Munich was also named by many subject specialists, but in the per-head indicators it only achieved a top ranking in terms of doctorates.
