Saarbrücken Graduate School of Computer Science

Saarbrücken Graduate School of Computer Science

Saarbrücken is your place to be if you are looking for one of the best places internationally to pursue a PhD in Informatics.

Saarbrücken Computer Science places particular importance on doctoral training. Why else would we already have over 350 PhD students from all over the world? Our program combines the strengths of European and American graduate systems. It is geared entirely towards doctoral education and training.

Our structures permit flexible entry into the doctoral program for the best students according to their academic background. You can start with an excellent Bachelor's degree or come in with a very good advanced degree, either in computer science or in a related area. The Saarbrücken campus of Saarland University offers a unique and stimulating research environment in informatics.

Academic and research training is provided by an impressively large group of advanced researchers. Collaboration is possible with over 180 researchers at the postdoctoral or professorial level.

You have a vast choice of research topics offered by over 75 potential advisors in the Faculty at Saarland University, covering virtually all areas of computer science. For many of them their reputations precede them, you might not even know that they are all here in Saarbrücken.

You may do your thesis work in the Department of Computer Science or at any one of our neighboring research institutes:

  • Max Planck Institute for Computer Science
  • Max Planck Institute for Software Systems
  • German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI)
  • Center for Bioinformatics
  • Intel Visual Computing Institute
  • Multimodal Computing and Interaction Cluster of Excellence
On top of all this, we can guarantee full financial support for all students accepted into the program. By the way, as you would expect given our international profile, the working language here is English.
