W3 Professorship in Data Science

W3 Professorship in Data Science

Your responsibilities:

• Delivering first-rate lectures at Bachelor’s and Master’s level in the subjects listed belowg the profile of the courses offered and the faculty as a whole
• Expanding the faculty’s application-oriented research. This also includes participation in research projects with the aim of consolidating application-oriented research with a national and international profile
• Use of the existing cooperative doctoral programme, supervision of doctoral students and implementation of larger projects
• A strong practical orientation and collaboration with industry
• Raising the profile of the courses offered and the faculty as a whole

Your profile:

• You will have to be able to teach subjects in the area of machine learning and business informatics/information systems, which will be complemented by experience in the deployment/operationalization of models and/or front-end technologies appropriate to the two areas, along with foundation courses on academic research and writing. 
• Candidates are therefore expected to have extensive experience in the above fields and in-depth knowledge of a specialist area (such as natural language processing or computer vision). 
• This should be demonstrated through relevant professional experience, peer-reviewed publications, research output, and a corresponding network of contacts in the field.

Requirements (see also Section 47 of the State University Act):

• Relevant qualifications in computer science, business informatics or a related discipline 
• A particular aptitude for academic work, usually evidenced by an excellent doctorate grade 
• A strong record in the application of theoretical knowledge over at least five years of professional practice (including at least 3 years outside of higher education); professional experience relevant to the field; and a network of contacts 
• Relevant publications
• Strong pedagogical and didactical skills 
• A good command of spoken and written English 
• A willingness to teach courses in English 
• A willingness to offer interdisciplinary courses

Subject to meeting the provisions of Germany’s civil service law, first appointments to a professorship are initially offered as probationary positions. Once you have demonstrated your suitability for the position, you will be offered a permanent professorship. It is possible to sign a fixed-term contract of employment. What we offer:
