The University of Münster will be introducing a new teaching degree programme in special needs education (SNE) with specialisation in learning (L) and emotional and social development (ESD) in the winter semester 2023/24. The responsibility for these areas lies with the Institute of Education (FB 06) and the Institute for Psychology in Education (FB 07), respectively.
The Institute of Education (IfE) of the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences (FB 6) at the University of Münster (WWU) seeks to fill the following position as soon as possible:

W3-level professorship (f/m/d) in educational science with the focus on special needs education in the context of inclusion

This professorship is one of three professorships in the Institute of Education and two professorships in the Institute for Psychology in Education responsible for administering and developing the above-mentioned new teaching degree programme for special needs education.
The prospective appointee shall represent the area of general special needs education with particular focus on inclusive education and its related theories in research and teaching. The candidate should possess substantiated expertise in the areas of cultural, social and educational scientific analysis of disabilities and impairments, equality and difference, and their historical, institutional and legal conditions.
The candidate’s responsibilities include conducting courses in subject-relevant modules of the bachelor’s and master’s teaching degree programmes in special needs education, as well as other teaching degree-related study programmes and bachelor’s and master’s programmes in educational science. The candidate should also contribute to building and conceptually developing the teaching degree programme in special needs education, supervise students during their in-school practical phases, administer examinations, and participate in academic self-administration.
We expect candidates to:
  • have cultivated an educational scientific and/or special needs or inclusion-pedagogical profile in research and teaching
  • have published thematically relevant national and international papers
  • have participated in national and international collaborations
  • possess experience with procuring third-party funding.
We expect the candidate to work with the thematically relevant research groups at the Institute of Education and the Institute for Psychology in Education, as well as the subject-related didactic areas in the special needs education teaching degree programme.
In accordance with § 36 of the NRW Higher Education Act (HG NRW), the application requirements include:
  • an above-average, thematically relevant university degree
  • an above-average, thematically relevant doctoral degree in educational science or special needs or an inclusion-pedagogical subject
  • exceptional academic achievements in the relevant field performed as an assistant professor (Juniorprofessor), while pursuing a habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), working as an academic staff member at a university or non-university research institute, or working in a research position in business, industry, administration or other relevant social fields in Germany or abroad
  • aptitude in higher-education didactics and willingness to hold courses in English and German.
