The
Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University offers the position of a
W3-endowed professorship for
"Clinical and Molecular Gastroenterology" (f/m/d)
to be filled for the first time as soon as possible (Dr. Rolf M. Schwiete W3 endowed professorship).
The successful candidate is expected to strengthen the field of precision medicine in gastrointestinal oncology within the II. Medical Department (with its focus on gastroenterology, hepatology, infectiology and nutritional medicine). The position holder will develop novel scientific strategies and methodological approaches using functional genomics and high throughput screens for innovative patient stratification and clinical trials in functional precision oncology.
She/He must be scientifically excellent as demonstrated by high-ranking publications, by successful acquisition of extramurally funded projects and by international collaborations. Active participation in oncology and the other three main research areas (Medical Systems Technologies, Translational Neurosciences, Vascular Biology and Medicine) of the faculty is expected. In particular, he/she should actively participate in research collaborations such as the GRK 2727/1 InCheck "Innate Immune Checkpoints in Cancer and Tissue Damage" (
https://www.umm.uni-heidelberg.de/grk2727/) or the SFB 1366 "Vascular Control of Organ Function" (
https://www.sfb1366.de/), including active collaboration with institutions within the Health and Life Science Alliance Heidelberg Mannheim. Depending on the research strategy of the applicant, a collaboration with the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) Heidelberg, including the DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute at University Mannheim Medical Center may be established. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching internal medicine, including gastroenterology and oncology, within MaReCuM, the restructured modular medical curriculum of the faculty.
Prerequisites for an application are a completed university degree, a qualified doctorate and, according to § 47 (2) of the Higher Education Law of the state of Baden-Württemberg, a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or a comparable scientific qualification as well as board certification in internal medicine or in internal medicine and gastroenterology. In addition, internationally visible, excellent achievements in research, teaching and patient care, relevant leadership experience, successful acquisition of third-party funding and didactic competence are expected as well as cooperation and leadership skills and commitment to academic self-administration.
Employment shall be in a private-law employment relationship. The position is a non-tenured position. According to the agreement with the Dr. Rolf M. Schwiete Foundation evaluation of the successful candidate is scheduled after 5 years. After successful evaluation the position will be funded for 5 more years. The position holder will fulfill tasks in patient care at University Medical Center Mannheim and within the II. Medical Department of University Medical Center Mannheim. In this regard, a separate contract will be concluded with the Universitätsklinikum Mannheim GmbH.
