A candidate is sought with immediate effect to represent this subject jointly at RWTH Aachen University and at the DLR as a non-university research institution in research and teaching (2 SWS). The future post holder will be appointed as a university professor at RWTH Aachen University and will be on leave there to develop the Institute of Future Fuels at the DLR as Director.
Research focuses on the development and modelling of components and processes for solar CO₂-neutral fuel production and their realization on a technical center scale and as digital twins. This includes the experimental and computer-aided development of new redox materials and catalysts for water and CO₂ splitting. The portfolio is rounded off with the techno- and socio-economic evaluation of solar fuel production as well as the modelling and integration of logistics and the provision of base materials. Teaching at RWTH Aachen University includes the basics of thermo- and redox chemistry, methodological approaches to the design of solar high-temperature systems with heat storage and the techno-economic evaluation of fuel production processes.
The place of employment is Jülich. Prerequisites are a completed university degree, doctorate and additional scientific achievements achieved through a habilitation, within the framework of a junior professorship, a scientific activity at a university, research institution, in business, administration or another social field. Relevant experience and expertise in applied research in the field of solar fuel production with a focus on the thermochemical generation route are expected, as well as a willingness to participate in joint research projects of the DLR and with other departments of the university as well as with other research partners such as the Forschungszentrum Jülich.
We are looking for a leader with proven management experience, social competence and the ability to integrate, who represents the subject area comprehensively in research and teaching and is very well connected nationally and internationally. The future holder of the position should have experience in the acquisition and implementation of cooperation projects with partners from industry and science, as well as experience in large-scale research and preferably also in industry. In addition, there should be appropriate involvement in the structural transformation of the "Rhenish Revier". For the external representation of the institute, business fluent knowledge of the German and English language is required. Furthermore, didactic skills are expected.
