Systems - invites applications for a position of a
University Professor - salary grade W3
in the field of "Internet Architecture and Management".
Faculty IV Reference number: IV-127/19 (starting at the earliest possible / unlimited / closing date for applications 27/03/19)
Working field: Research and teaching in the area of internet architectures and protocols with emphasis on at least one
of the following fields:
Network Architectures: coexistence of information centric and classical architectures, innovative architectures for supporting
information placement and processing placement under joint transmission, storage, and processing point of
view, joint routing and resource allocation.
Software Defined Networks and Network Virtualisation: separation of control and user plane, further development of
control protocols and interfaces (beyond open stack, and P4), correctness verification of control protocols, controller
placement / network function placement (optimization) and relocation (execution protocols), dynamic parametrization
of co-located slices according to the offered traffic and available capacities.
Programmable Routers: optimization of the software architecture, performance modelling and evaluation, component
Internet Security and Resilience: security of softwarized networks, detection of security vulnerabilities (with special
respect to control plane) security breaks and network component failures. Traffic network measurements for cyber
Traffic and QoS Monitoring: on-line traffic analysis and QoS monitoring, network measurements for bottleneck identification.
Protocols Supporting Verticals - e.g. improved content delivery, tactile internet, Internet of things. Harmonization of the
verticals support in the core network with the support in the access networks (especially in Post 5G architectures).
Proven achievements in both theoretical and experimental research is required. Close cooperation with research groups
in related fields such as Data Communications and Networking, Information Theory, Distributed Systems, Video Communication,
Internet Measurement and Analysis, Service Centric Networking and others is expected.
The teaching obligation includes the basic lectures on computer networking and protocols, control within and between
networked autonomous systems, the impact on services such as video streaming etc. as well the principles of networking
protocols. Additional lectures should consider performance evaluations of internet architectures and the design of Internet
algorithms. The courses will be part of the Bachelor and the Master degree programs offered by the Faculty IV - Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science.
Berlin offers a rich research environment in the field and related areas including several non-university research institutes,
such that a wide range of research collaboration opportunities is possible.
Requirements: Candidates must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100
BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act), including a finished academic education, qualified achievements in research
(PhD), post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification (e.g. documented by quality of scientific
papers) and pedagogical didactic qualifications, to be given proof of by a teaching portfolio (for more information see
TUB website, quick access no. 144242).
Furthermore, we expect proven expertise in theoretical and experimental research and an excellent publication record in
at least one of the abovementioned technical fields; teaching experience and competence in the management of a working
