University Professor – salary grade W3
for the field of
"Mathematics – Geometry and Mathematical Physics".

Working field:
The position requires research and teaching in the area of Geometry
and Mathematical Physics, covering the full span from basic research
to applications in areas like computer graphics and physics. The
successful candidate will participate actively in research within
the SFB/Transregio 109 "Discretization in Geometry and Dynamics" and
will support the Emerging Field "Digital Shapes" of the Cluster of
Excellence MATH+. Teaching requirements include an adequate
participation in teaching the basic courses of the mathematical
degree programs as well as service teaching of mathematics for
non-mathematical programs. Candidates are expected to supervise
students' theses on Bachelor, Master, and PhD level, and to
participate in the academic administration of the university. An
adequate involvement in the Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) is
desired. Candidates should be able to teach also in English.
Further responsibilities include leadership and management of the
work group and its staff, promotion of young scholars, women and
social diversity, knowledge and technology transfer,
internationalization initiatives as well as gender- and
diversity-competent and sustainability-oriented action.
Requirements:
Successful applicants must fulfill the requirements for appointment
at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin
Higher Education Act), including a completed academic education in
mathematics or a comparable discipline, qualified achievements in
research (doctorate in mathematics), additional academic
achievements (as a rule evaluated junior professorship, habilitation
or habilitation equivalent) and pedagogical-didactic qualifications,
to be proven by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching

Candidates have an internationally visible profile based on
excellent achievements in current mathematical research in geometry
and mathematical physics demonstrated by relevant publications in
peer-reviewed journals. Relevant experience in teaching, including
the supervision of Bachelor's, Master's and PhD theses, as well as
experience in administrative duties and experience in third-party-funded and joint research projects is expected. The candidate's
research direction should allow an integration in the Institute's
Geometry and Mathematical Physics Group, in the SFB Transregio
"Discretization in Geometry and Dynamics", as well as in further
collaborative research activities.
The ability to lead and manage a research group and its staff, the
ability to promote junior staff, as well as gender and diversity
competence and active commitment to knowledge transfer as well as
science communication are required. As an internationally
distinguished university, we require good knowledge of English and

willing to learn the German language as soon as possible.
