University Professor - salary grade W3
for the chair of "Conservation and Urban Cultural Heritage".

The professorship represents the department of monument preservation and urban cultural heritage in
research and teaching. It focuses on the analysis of historically relevant places, buildings, structures and relics in their
form and materiality within spatial research and planning discourses. The deconstruction of historical events and narratives
associated with places and spaces, the use of methods of memory research, cultural heritage and monument theory
are to enhance city and neighborhood planning actions and practice.
The aim of teaching is to convey within an interdisciplinary range of classes at the Institute of Urban and Regional Planning
the ability to recognize historical building structures and social and spatial meaning of places and to use this knowledge
in urban planning and urban design concepts and processes, also specifically in the field of urban conservation.
In research, it is expected that the applicant can safely lead the DFG Research Training Group "Identity and Heritage",
which started in 2016, through a further funding period. Participation in the SFB 1265 "Re-Figuration of Spaces" is desirable.
Requirements: Candidates must qualify for appointment according to the requirements of §100 of the Berlin University
Law (BerlHG); these entail a completed university degree, scientific qualifications (PhD as well as "Habilitation" or equivalent
scientific achievements, i.e. publications), practical experience (providing expertise, consulting) as well as teaching
aptitude, documented by a teaching portfolio (TUB website, quick access no.
144242). In addition, experience in project-
oriented teaching/life projects is desirable.
Applicants are familiar with urban heritage and its preservation in theory and practice and participate in national and
international debates on cultural heritage. They are acquainted with methods and approaches of art-history, cultural science,
urban planning and/or architecture. According to the interdisciplinary profile of the position, candidates could be
urban planners, art historians or architects and social scientists.
In any case, from their respective disciplinary perspective, applicants should have been involved in social negotiation
processes on the heritage value of structures and the different views on heritage by individuals and communities.
We are looking for an outstanding researcher capable of increasing the national as well as international visibility of Technische
Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) in the area of urban planning and urban regeneration. Expected experiences are in
the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded research projects. Communication skills and the willingness to
continuously develop interdisciplinary co- operation with other departments of TU Berlin, research institutions outside university
as well as on the international level is a prerequisite. Experiences in working in interdisciplinary teams and competences
in the field of promotion of young academics and women as well as in the field of gender mainstreaming are
desirable. Furthermore the readiness to take on administrative tasks is essential.
Applicants must be able to conduct teaching in German and English. The requisite language skills were determined by
the Academic Senate in its decision on language policy of 16th May, 2018.
