Working field: With regard to teaching, architectural design is the key competence of the subject area. The imparting of design skills is
central to the curriculum. The department Architecture for Health aims to provide students with the necessary skills to design healthcare facilities. The
design process requires the consideration of functional, medical, structural, economic as well as aesthetic aspects. The curriculum covers large-scale medical
institutions (such as hospitals) as well as smaller facilities (such as specialised institutions for the treatment of physical or psychological diseases, hospices
or retirement homes). Therefore the design process involves both questions of urban planning and building technology. Architecture for Health is concerned with
the design and operation of sustainable medical institutions. A focus on researching the principles of planning, construction and interior equipment will directly
benefit the teaching curriculum. Scientific methods will be explained, findings will be discussed in an academic environment and new solution approaches will be
exchanged in an interdisciplinary way. The abilities thus acquired offer a wide range of knowledge for any related field of architecture and societal issues.
An analysis of topics relevant to the field of architecture, such as demographic change, gender aspects, quality of life and scarcity of resources, must be
recognized as factors that increasingly influence architectural design. The design (process) reflects the relationship between health, built environment and
society. Successful applicants are expected to contribute actively to the development of the key research areas of TU Berlin and to participate in the faculty's
Requirements: Candidates should fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 of the Berlin Higher
Education Act (BerlHG). More detailed information on the teaching portfolio proving the paedagogic- didactic suitability can be obtained from the TUB website,
direct access 144242. We are looking for an architect with profound experience in the design and construction of healthcare facilities and/or a scientist with
an outstanding research record within the subject area. Employment as a professor requires significant research skills and experience in the management of
research projects, in the acquisition of research funding, and in the integration of gender aspects in research. Applicants be both dedicated teachers and
experienced architects willing to engage in cross-disciplinary projects and academic self-administration. Applicants have to be proficient in English.
Applicants must be able to hold courses in German and English.
