The new professor will cover research and teaching at VCR²in the field of bioinformatics in the areas of veterinary medicine, infectious disease from a medical perspective, and infectious disease from a biological perspective. The professorship should focus on research related to methods of data collection and analysis in the context of drug resistance as well as prevention strategies.
Teaching will predominantly be within the bioinformatics bachelor's and master's degree programs in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).
The successful candidate will hold a university degree in the field of bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, biology, or a similarly relevant field. They should also be able to demonstrate academic accomplishments (as defined by Article 100, paragraphs 2 and 6 of the Berlin Higher Education Act) in the field of bioinformatics. The appointee should have an excellent research record with a focus on computer assisted statistical analyses and modeling of large quantities of data (e.g. omics data), including a background in evolutionary concepts. They should have experience working with models and simulations of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, infection dynamics, and drug resistance development, as well as with concepts and problems in the fields of (veterinary) medicine, infectious disease from a medical perspective, or infectious disease from a biological perspective. The new professor should also have a background in genotype-phenotype mapping as it applies to identifying clinical correlates associated with resistance. Furthermore, they should be knowledgeable about how antibiotics and antiparasitic drugs lead to resistance. Finally, the successful applicant should be able to demonstrate experience with the organization and analysis of clinical and epidemiological studies.
Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:
The new professor will be involved in preparing and maintaining databases, sharing data with the relevant research associations, as well as interpreting and validating data sets. They should also develop their own innovative research and integrate it into the current structures and research groups at VCR2, the Department of Veterinary Medicine, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, as well as other relevant research institutions, such as the Zuse Institute Berlin. The appointee will also be expected to conduct their teaching in such a way that is attentive and sensitive to diversity issues.
