University Professor – salary grade W2
for a period of 5 years (tenure track to permanent W3 position)
for the chair of "Environmental Governance".
With this position, TU Berlin especially addresses and aims to promote young scientists. In case of a successful tenure track evaluation after 5 years, this position will lead to a permanent W3 professorship. The professorship shall represent the topic ,Environmental Governance' in research and teaching in the context of environmental planning. The focus is on the analysis and governance of human-environment systems with spatial and land use (e.g. renewable energy, biodiversity, climate adaptation) and environmental planning relevance (environmental impact assessment, landscape and spatial planning, protected areas, etc.). The successful candidate has a background in political science, economics, sociology, law or administrative science, and excels in governance issues of environmental planning.
Teaching covers courses in the BA/MA programme 'Ecology and Environmental Planning' (in German and English) and the international MA programme 'Environmental Planning' (in English). Based on the candidate's background, courses may cover environmental policy/politics, environmental economics, environmental law, and other topics relevant to environmental governance. As a researcher, the successful candidate has in-depth knowledge of several of the following governance facets:
Multi-level environmental governance systems and discourses; environmental transformation processes, relevant actors in policy- and decision-making processes, the role of power; analytic methods, e.g. policy analysis, scenario approaches (e.g. fore- and backcasting), agent-based approaches; effects of environmental policies, tools, norms and values; analysis, monitoring, and amendment of sustainable developments goals; effects on other policy levels and fields of action (e.g. trade-offs); convergence but also counteractive action (e.g. dismantling) in environmental policy; relevant theories, e.g. institutionalism, systems theory, social fields, human action and (bounded) rationalism, path dependency, etc.
Requirements: Candidates must qualify for appointment according to the requirements of §100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (BerlHG); these entail a completed university degree, scientific achievements (documented by a PhD), scientific postdoctoral achievements (documented by scientific publications, acquisition of third party funding) as well as pedagogic-didactic aptitude, documented by corresponding teaching experience listed in a teaching portfolio (see TUB Website, quick access 144242).
Technische Universität Berlin is looking for an outstanding researcher in ,Environmental Governance', capable of increasing the international visibility of TU Berlin in this area. Experience in the acquisition and leadership of research projects is desirable; strong communication skills, leadership skills and competence in managing personnel are essential characteristics of the successful candidate. Motivation for interdisciplinary cooperation with relevant working groups at TU Berlin and external research institutions is essential. Experience with interdisciplinary research teams, and interest in the promotion of junior and female scientists are appreciated. A willingness to take on academic service as well as didactic skills and academic teaching experience are expected. You should be willing and able to deliver courses in German and English.
