University Professorship (Salary Scale W2) Intelligent Automation Systems
Technische Universität Clausthal
The Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering of the Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to appoint the Position of
University Professor (Salary Scale W2 NBesO)
”Intelligent Automation Systems” (m/f/d)
at the Institute of Electrical Information Technology as soon as possible.
Clausthal University of Technology is a research-focused university with outstanding national and international networking. The approximately 4,000 students and more than 1,200 employees enjoy short commutes, personal interaction, and the diverse landscape of the Upper Harz region in the middle of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Harz Mountains. Clausthal University of Technology is the most significant economic factor and the largest employer in the region, offering cultural diversity and inter-nationalism. Here, science works closely with business and industry, bridging the gap between basic research and application in a strategic focus on the Circular Economy. With this university-wide concept for the future, our research aims to contribute to the development of a sustainable industrial society in the digital age. The close link between material and process knowledge as well as the expertise in digitization facilitate a significant contribution to the implementation of the Circular Economy.
Automation technology is of great importance for all areas of production technology, especially for intelligent factories, so-called smart factories. The professorship is to research from an industrial user perspective how new methods such as wireless high-speed networks, modern sensor technology, high-performance computing capacities and autonomous systems can be used in future production facilities. These key topics will be addressed by this professorship at the Institute of Electrical Information Technology and will secure the future viability of Clausthal University of Technology.
The position holder is responsible for the organization and further development of the teaching portfolio for automation technology and shall in particular research the use of intelligent automation systems in manufacturing.
Research foci of the professorship are to be located in innovative areas of automation technology with high innovation and third-party funding potential. In particular, the following scientific expertise is expected:
1. automation technology, automation systems
2. digitalization in production
3. autonomous systems
Possible focal points in research could be in the following areas:
4. industrial automation with programmable logic controllers
5. autonomous systems for production
6. intelligent production systems for additive manufacturing or in process engineering
7. human-machine interfaces in production
The main goal is to build up a research and third party funded branch in automation technology in the medium term. The professorship Intelligent Automation Systems shall cover the classical automation technology for mechanical engineering. Within the university, the professorship is to play an active role in shaping the research field of novel materials and processes for competitive products and thus strengthen the digitization-related research profile of engineering sciences and computer science.
