University Professor – salary grade W3
for the chair of
Autonomous and Energy-Efficient Maritime Technologies
at the Institute of Land and Sea Transport Systems
Reference number: V-612/22 (starting at 01/04/23 /

Working field:
Teaching and research in the area of energy-efficient ships and
autonomous shipping in the Maritime Technologies, Transportation
Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering degree programs as well as
other engineering science degree programs at TU Berlin.
The topics to be addressed include:

Theoretical and experimental investigation of the energy
efficiency of maritime vehicles from a hydrodynamic point of view
-
Autonomy of watercraft with a focus on vehicle movement behavior
-
Modeling, development, and research of sustainable propulsion
systems for different types and classes of watercraft
- Maritime environmental protection
A systems approach is expected in teaching and research, combining
relevant aspects of propulsion systems, fluid mechanics, autonomy
concepts and implementation, etc. Courses are held in German and
English.
Further responsibilities include leading and managing the chair and
its staff; supporting the advancement of junior scholars, women, and
diversity; knowledge and technology transfer; initiatives to promote
internationalization; working practices reflecting gender and
diversity competence as well as issues of sustainability; committee
activities.
Requirements:

Candidates are required to fulfill the hiring conditions pursuant
to Section 100 of the Berlin State Higher Education Act (BerlHG –
Gesetz über die Hochschulen im Land Berlin) (a fact sheet is

A relevant engineering science or natural science university
degree, e.g. naval architecture and ocean engineering or
mechanical engineering

A particular aptitude for research work, as a rule demonstrated by
the quality of the applicant's doctorate
-
Additional academic achievements, as a rule demonstrated by a
positively evaluated junior professorship, a habilitation or
equivalent achievements (for further details, please refer to the

An aptitude for teaching demonstrated by a teaching portfolio (for
further information, please refer to the TU Berlin website, quick
access 144242)

In-depth knowledge in the field of maritime propulsion technology
-
Experience in industry, business, or research institutions with
scientific management responsibilities

Extensive network of contacts in the shipbuilding and supply
industry as well as in the research community
- Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation

Knowledge of energy efficiency, environmental protection,
watercraft autonomy, sustainable design of watercraft propulsion
systems
-
Experience of leadership/management and knowledge/technology
transfer as well as gender and diversity competence, an
understanding of sustainability issues, and experience of
committee work
