for the department of "Sociology and Social Theory". Reference number: VI-915/22 (starting at 01/10/24 / permanent / closing date for applications 30/04/23) Working field: The advertised professorship represents the subject of sociology with a focus on general sociology and sociological theory. In teaching, the future position holder represents the full range of the subject of sociology. In research, he or she pursues independent theory development in close connection with qualitative empirical research. The theoretical profile of the future position holder lies within the spectrum of sociological approaches that assume a meaningful constitution and social construction of social reality. Ideally, he or she contributes to the methodology of qualitative and interpretive research. The professorship’s empirical research relates to the department of sociology’s two main research foci (especially "Space and Society" but also "Innovation and Society"). The future position holder will contribute significantly to further the development of the department’s research focus "Space and Society", but also the research focus "Innovation and Society". In teaching, the focus is on (elective) compulsory modules in the field of sociological theory, theories of societies, as well as interpretive sociology and the sociology of knowledge in the bachelor's and master's programs "Sociology and Technology Studies," as well as in the minor subject teaching. It is also desirable that the position holder will teach modules in qualitative methods and methodologies. Courses are taught in German and in English. Participation in the other teaching tasks of the faculty and the tasks of academic self-administration is required. Further responsibilities include leading and managing the department and its staff; supporting the advancement of junior scholars, women, and social diversity; knowledge and technology transfer; initiatives to promote internationalization; gender and diversity competence, and sustainability-oriented action as well as committee and commission work. Requirements: Applicants must fulfil the appointment criteria according to Section 100 BerlHG. These include a university degree in sociology or a related field; a special aptitude for scientific work (usually proven by the quality of a doctorate in sociology); additional scientific achievements (usually a positively evaluated junior professorship, a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements); as well as pedagogical aptitude, documented by a teaching portfolio (for further details, please refer to the website of Technische Universität Berlin, https://www.tu.berlin/go209650/). The future position holder needs to have a research focus in general sociology and sociological theory (demonstrated by relevant publications and empirical research projects) and to be experienced in applying for third-party funding. He or she also has to be able to teach courses in sociological theory. Furthermore desirable are research contributions to the methodology of qualitative and interpretive research (demonstrated by relevant publications), the ability to teach courses in the areas of interpretive sociology and sociology of knowledge as well as qualitative and interpretive methods and methodologies, and also research and teaching experience in the areas of the methodology of the social sciences and the relationship between sociological theory and empirical research. Accordingly, the future position holder has to be willing to interdisciplinary cooperate with other disciplines (e.g. spatial sciences or engineering) of Technische Universität Berlin. He or she has to establish research links to research foci of the Technische Universität Berlin (especially to spatial sciences and engineering disciplines) and to be willing to engage in international committees and research contexts.
