Technische Universität Berlin – Faculty III Process Sciences – Institute of Energy Engineering offers a position for a
University Professor – salary grade W3
for the chair of
"Energy Process Engineering and Conversion Technologies for Renewable Energies".
The professorship is to be funded by the Berlin Program for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities for Women in
Research and Teaching (BCP). The goal of the BCP is to increase the number of women in professorships as well as
leadership positions in research and teaching.
Faculty III
Reference number: III-404/22 (starting at 01/10/23 / permanent / closing date for applications 18/07/22)
Working field:
The successful candidate must represent the field of energy process engineering and conversion
technologies of regenerative energies in its entire breadth in research and teaching. In research, the main activities shall be in the field of characterization and thermochemical conversion of biomass as an example of multiphase reactive processes in porous media. An important aspect here is also the use of such processes for the synthesis of carbon-based advanced biomaterials. Furthermore, the integration of biomass and other renewable energy sources into the
existing energy supply infrastructure, considering industrial needs, represents an important field of work for the
professorship.
Teaching responsibilities will focus primarily on programs in energy process engineering and conversion technologies of
regenerative energies especially for students of engineering courses. In addition, the successful candidate should
provide topics for and supervise Bachelor, Master and Doctoral theses. In the context of a strategic internationalization
process, TU Berlin assumes recruited academic staff’s ability to conduct classes in English.
Requirements:
Candidates must fulfil the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100
BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act) [information sheet available by request], including a completed academic education
in power engineering, process engineering, mechanical engineering, technical physics or a comparable discipline,
qualified achievements in research (doctorate and additional academic achievements) and pedagogical-didactic
qualifications, demonstrated by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see
TUB Website, quick access 144242). We are looking for an internationally recognized individual with high-ranking
publications and a documented track-record in third-party funding.
Necessary are
-
Outstanding expertise in the field of thermochemical conversion of biogenic materials about the fundamentals
(detailed multiscale description of the reaction and transport processes in the thermochemical conversion of biogenic
materials) as well as the applications (e.g., integration of renewable energy sources in the industrial sector
considering aspects of the circular economy),
-
Mastery of the investigation of the detailed reaction and transport processes (e.g., by laser spectroscopic methods) in the thermochemical conversion of biomass as an example of reactive porous media
-
Ability to lead a larger research group, documented by relevant experience or training, and
-
Subject-specific teaching experience, documented in the teaching portfolio.
Also desired is
-
Experience in strategic planning, acquisition and implementation of national and international research and
development projects
-
International research experience and leadership experience of interdisciplinary research groups and
-
Experience in the promotion of young researchers and women as well as in gender equality.
Contributions to current and future joint research projects at the Institute for Energy Engineering as well as the initiation of new research networks are expected.
Technische Universität Berlin expects its professors to possess the ability to both head their academic chair and manage its staff as well as assume responsibility for the chair’s strategic development. For us, this includes commitment to the advancement of junior scholars and women, the gender and diversity expertise required to create diversity-sensitive working and study conditions, providing fresh impetus in research and teaching and participating in academic self-administration. Interdisciplinary cooperation and initiatives in science communication as well as in knowledge and technology transfer are also sought. As a university with an international profile, we require our professors to possess excellent English language skills and we expressly welcome applications from scientists whose native language is not German and who are committed to quickly learning German.
Technische Universität Berlin is determined to increase the proportion of women in
research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages qualified
female researchers to apply. Qualified individuals with disabilities
will be favored. The TU Berlin values the diversity of its members
and is committed to the goals of equal opportunities. Technische Universität Berlin is a
certified family-friendly higher education institution, and our Dual
Career Service offers assistance to you and your family when
relocating to Berlin.
