The successful applicant will cover research and teaching in the field of animal ecology.
Appointment requirements are governed by Section 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).
Applicants should have an excellent record of research activities, for example in the field of interactions between two or more species (e.g., insects and plants or host and symbiont), preferably from an evolutionary ecology or population ecology perspective. They should be able to implement quantitative experimental and/or theoretical methods in their work and demonstrate an ability to connect their research with one or more existing specializations at the Institute. Successful candidates should have teaching experience at the university level, including international teaching experience where possible. They should also have experience in acquiring and leading externally funded research projects, and be able to teach in German and/or English.
The new appointee will be expected to teach in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs taught at the Institute for Biology, namely “Biology” and “Biodiversity, Evolution, Ecology” (teaching load: 9 hours of teaching per week). As the appointee is expected to offer courses in German and English, candidates must have a keen interest in acquiring the adequate language skills within a period of three years from the date of employment. They will be expected to collaborate with working groups at the Institute of Biology and other research institutions within Berlin, and participate in a range of scientific networks and initiatives (e.g., BBIB, FOR 5026, BeGenDiv, DCPS). They will be expected to organize excursions and address gender and diversity issues in their teaching.
Applications should include a Résumé for Researchers (https://www.bcp.fu-berlin.de/fachbereich/service/forms/index.html#faq_berufungen), a CV, copies of all certificates of academic qualification in German or English (please enclose translations where necessary), a list of publications, a list of courses previously taught, and evidence of teaching aptitude. Please include information on involvement in ongoing and future research endeavors, joint research projects, and externally funded projects. If necessary, please include language certificates. If applicable, please give information on partnerships with industry, inventions/patents, and spin-offs.
Please submit all application materials electronically as one PDF file (maximum 5 MB) by April 13th, 2023. Be sure to include a personal postal address and email, as well as the reference code for the position. For formal purposes (i.e., for formatting application documents), you may use the following postal address, but please send your application to the email address below it.
