University Professor – salary grade W3
for the department of
"Spatial Analysis of Social Inequality and Research Data Management".

Working field: The post holder should represent the subject of sociology in research and teaching in its full breadth and have a research focus on spatial analysis of social inequality and research data management.
Future research should focus on at least one of the following areas: social inequality, poverty, income, segregation, migration, quantitative spatial analysis, longitudinal survey research, georeferencing of data, research data management, data protection. The post holder is required to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other spatial science disciplines at Technische Universität Berlin and to establish research links to the future concepts of the Institute of Sociology, Faculty VI and Technische Universität Berlin. In particular, the post holder is expected to actively contribute to the Collaborative Research Center "Re-Figuration of spaces" and to have experience in acquiring external funding in at least one of the specified areas of research. Research interest in innovation is also desirable to reflect the research focuses of the Institute.
Teaching will focus on the relevant compulsory/compulsory elective modules in the bachelor’s and master’s programs "Sociology and Technology Studies" and "Urban and Regional Planning". It is further expected that the post holder undertakes additional teaching at the Institute of Sociology as well as academic self-management duties.
The professorship is also associated with the management of the Data Operations and Research Data Center (FDZ SOEP) of the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) at DIW.
Requirements: Applicants must fulfil the appointment criteria according to Section 100 BerlHG. These include a university degree in sociology or a related discipline; a special aptitude for scientific work (usually proven by the quality of a doctorate in a relevant subject); additional scientific achievements (usually positively evaluated junior professorship, habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements); as well as pedagogical aptitude, documented by a teaching portfolio (further information available on the TUB website,

Furthermore relevant publications as well as several years’ research experience in at least one of the following areas: poverty and inequality research, quantitative spatial analysis, research data management of longitudinal survey data, georeferencing of data, technical data protection.
