The Faculty of Natural and Materials Sciences of Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to appoint the position of a
University Professor (Salary Scale W3 NBesG)
"Production of steel and non-ferrous metals and their process technology" (m/f/d)
at the Institute of Metallurgy as soon as possible.
The person to be appointed must have outstanding research experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Pyrometallurgical processes for the recycling of iron/steel and non-ferrous metals
- Resource conservation through combined process and material development. In particular, development of processes for the production of the highest possible quality metals from recycled material in interaction with alloy development to compensate for the effect of interfering elements of the recycled material.
- Technological developments for sustainable steel production (decarbonisation), e.g. process chains for H2-based production of premium steels based on globally widely available ore qualities.
- Development of simulation and data analysis methods for steel and non-ferrous metal production, e.g. for quality assurance (digitalization).
- Metallurgical processes for the production of easily transportable/storable metallic energy carriers for subsequent hydrogen production, e.g. further developments of the "iron-steam process"
- Metallurgical processes for large-scale electrical energy storage, e.g. according to the principle of the liquid metal battery.
The production of steel and non-ferrous metals and the associated fundamentals are integrated into the teaching in the university's materials-oriented degree courses.
The position holder is expected to collaborate on an interdisciplinary basis within the framework of the research priorities of Clausthal University of Technology, especially in the interdisciplinary research field of "Sustainable Materials and Processes" at Clausthal University of Technology.
Clausthal University of Technology is a research-focused university with outstanding national and international networking. The approximately 3,500 students and more than 1,200 employees enjoy short commutes, personal interaction, and the diverse landscape of the Upper Harz region in the middle of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Harz Mountains. Clausthal University of Technology is the most significant economic factor and the largest employer in the region, offering cultural diversity and internationalism. Here, science works closely with business and industry, bridging the gap between basic research and application in a strategic focus on the Circular Economy. With this university-wide concept for the future, our research aims to contribute to the development of a sustainable industrial society in the digital age. The close link between material and process knowledge as well as the expertise in digitization facilitate a significant contribution to the implementation of the Circular Economy."
The requirements of the position are defined in Section 25 of the Niedersachsen Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz NHG).
Experience in the acquisition of third-party funded projects or corresponding industrial experience is a prerequisite.
The willingness to hold courses in German and English is a prerequisite. Strong commitment to teaching is expected.
